American pitcher Jacob Timothy Bird, popularly known as Jake Bird plays for the Colorado Rockies of Major League Baseball. He was born on December 4, 1995.
Bird attended Stevenson Ranch, California’s West Ranch High School. He made the decision to attend UCLA for his final year of high school, where he pitched to a 1.55 ERA over 58 innings. After going undrafted in the Major League Baseball draft of 2014, he enrolled at UCLA.
Bird made his professional debut with the Grand Junction Rockies of the Rookie-level Pioneer League, going 4-1 with a 3.38 ERA over 26+2/3 innings worked in relief. He then signed a contract with the Rockies.
He received All-Star recognition in 2019 while pitching for the Class A South Atlantic League’s Asheville Tourists, where he went 7–2 with a 3.62 ERA and 80 strikeouts in 97 innings.
He was given the Hartford Yard Goats of the Double-A Northeast to start the 2021 campaign before being moved to the Albuquerque Isotopes of the Triple-A West in early June.
Bird had a 6-1 record, a 3.38 ERA, and 59 strikeouts over 58+2/3 innings in 39 outings for the two teams. After the season, he was chosen to represent the Salt River Rafters in the Arizona Fall League. He joined the Isotopes once more to start the 2022 campaign.
The Rockies chose Bird’s contract and promoted him to the major leagues on June 11, 2022. On June 16, he faced the Cleveland Guardians and pitched one scoreless inning in relief.
