The Milwaukee Brewers bought Cousins’ contract from Schaumburg on July 17, 2019, after noticing his performance.

Cousins was sent to the Arizona League Brewers Blue after signing with the Brewers, before being promoted to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers in Class A.

Cousins went 3-0 with a 1.91 ERA in 14 games between the AZL Brewers and the Wisconsin Brewers, striking out 39 batters in 28.1 innings.

With authorization from the Brewers, he returned to independent baseball with the Chicago Dogs of the American Association of Professional Baseball on July 19, 2020, after the minor league season was canceled.

Cousins pitched in 15 games for the Cubs, posting a 3.38 ERA. After eight appearances with the Double-A Biloxi Shuckers in 2021, he was promoted to Triple-A Nashville Sounds.

Cousins was promoted to the big leagues for the first time on June 21, 2021, when he was named to the 40-man roster. Prior to his promotion, Cousins had a 2.55 ERA in 16 games for Biloxi and Nashville.

On that day, he made his MLB debut against the Arizona Diamondbacks, pitching two scoreless innings in relief. He struck out Diamondbacks catcher Stephen Vogt for his first career strikeout during the game, one of five on the night.

After pitching a scoreless inning in relief against the New York Mets on July 7, Cousins got his first professional victory. Cousins didn’t give up an earned run until his 18th start.
