He weighs 76 kilograms and is 1.75 meters tall. At Lyons Township High School, where he played football, the Chicago Tribune named him to the First Team All-State before his junior year.

After converting 15 of his first 21 field goal attempts as a senior, he was selected as a Second-team kicker for Kohl’s All-America List.



Both the University of North Dakota and the University of Memphis offered him a full scholarship after his senior year of high school, but he choose to play for the Memphis Tigers there instead. Following summer practice, he was picked as the freshman team’s primary kicker. He was the Tigers’ top scorer following his rookie season with 72 points.
