Marisnick chose to sign with the Blue Jays instead of attending Oregon, getting a $1 million signing bonus, more than double the suggested bonus for a player picked at his position.

Marisnick was ranked as the 58th-best prospect in baseball by MLB.com prior to the 2012 season.

Marisnick, along with Adeiny Hechavarria, Henderson lvarez, Yunel Escobar, Jeff Mathis, Anthony DeSclafani, and Justin Nicolino, was traded to the Miami Marlins on November 19, 2012, for Mark Buehrle, Josh Johnson, José Reyes, John Buck, and Emilio Bonifacio.

Marisnick was ranked 70th on MLB’s Top 100 Prospects list on January 29, 2013.
