Jalen Mayfield plays as an offensive lineman for the National Football League’s Atlanta Falcons (NFL). He attended Michigan for his college football career before being selected by the Falcons in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft.
Mayfield was a four-year starter at offensive tackle and defensive end for the football team while he was a student at Catholic Central High School in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where he was raised. In February of his junior year, Mayfield made a promise to play college football for Minnesota, but three months later he switched to Michigan.
He participated in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl and finished his senior year with 96 tackles, 31 tackles for loss, 17 sacks, and three fumble recoveries, and was awarded The Grand Rapids Press Defensive Player of the Year.
As a true freshman, Mayfield participated in three games as a left tackle. He was selected as the Wolverines’ starting right tackle entering his sophomore season, and after appearing in all 13 of Michigan’s games, he was named honourable mention All-Big Ten Conference. After the 2020 season, Mayfield declared he would forego his remaining college years of eligibility and declare for the 2021 NFL Draft instead.
