Mills’ agent, Drew Rosenhaus, verified the information to ESPN’s Adam Schefter and mentioned that it includes $9 million in guaranteed compensation. When the NFL’s new league year begins on Wednesday, it will become official.
Mills was one of four swift additions made by the Patriots, who pounced on the opportunity to use their salary-cap space in a year where the majority of teams were forced to release veterans or restructure contracts to stay under the $182.5 million cap, a significant decrease from the $198.2 million cap last year.
His first four seasons with the Eagles were as a cornerback. Before the 2020 season began, he moved to safety and adjusted effectively, recording a career-high 74 total tackles in 15 games, along with three passes defended, 1.5 sacks, and one interception.
His 2017 season in Philadelphia was his best statistically, with 64 tackles, 14 passes defended, and three interceptions. During the team’s run to the Super Bowl LII championship, he contributed 13 tackles and five passes were broken up.
