On July 18, 1998, Jalen Thompson was born in Paramount, California. The NFL uses him as a safety. From 2014 to 2015, Thompson played football at Downey High School, and from 2012 to 2013, he did so at La Serna High School.

As a sophomore in 2013, Thompson earned honorable mention for the San Gabriel Valley League and led LSHS to an 11-3 record and a CIF Championship. After making 57 tackles and one interception as a junior in 2014, Thompson was named All-CIF and All-League.

He also caught 22 passes for 450 yards and four touchdowns. He averaged 20.2 yards per grab as a senior and picked off five passes, earning him All-CIF Southern Section, All-San Gabriel Valley League, and Long Beach Press-Telegram All-Area Dream Team recognition.

In 39 games (all starts), across three seasons from 2016 to 2018, Thompson recorded 191 tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss, six interceptions, 23 passes defused, two forced fumbles, and five fumble recoveries for Washington State.

He was the lone player chosen, and the Arizona Cardinals took him in the fifth round of the supplemental draft. On July 17, 2019, he committed to the Cardinals for a period of four years. On September 8, 2019, against Detroit, Thompson made his NFL debut, participating in seven special teams snaps.

In 2021, Thompson continued to serve as the Cardinals’ starting strong safety and finished the season with 121 tackles. Through 17 games and 12 starts, he added seven passes defended and three interceptions. Thompson agreed to a three-year, $40 million contract extension with the Cardinals on September 2, 2022, with a $24.5 million guaranteed minimum salary.
