The Philadelphia Phillies selected James McArthur, a junior at Ole Miss, in the 12th round, and the Miami Marlins selected Bryce Miller, a freshman at Blinn College, in the 38th round.



Both are right-handed pitchers that shone throughout their time at New Braunfels High School on the mound.

McArthur, a 6-foot-7, 235-pound pitcher for the Southeastern Conference’s Rebels, had a fantastic junior season. In 16 starts on the mound, he finished 6-1 with a 4.48 ERA and 58 strikeouts.



During his tenure in Oxford, Mississippi, McArthur has 15 victories and 179 total strikeouts, and he was named a Collegiate Baseball Louisville Slugger All-American during his rookie season in 216.

Miller, a 6-foot-2, 180-pound pitcher, appeared in 20 games for the Buccaneers as a rookie and went 7-1 with five saves in 28 2/3 innings. In his debut season of collegiate baseball, he struck out 34 batters while posting a 4.08 ERA.

Under the supervision of head coaches Doug Edwards and Bobby Alford, McArthur and Miller achieved numerous distinctions as Unicorns.

McArthur, a 2015 NBHS graduate, was named an honorable mention All-American and first team all-region selection after finishing 6-1 with a 1.82 ERA in 34 2/3 innings during his senior season.

He was also named to the first team all-district team.

Miller, a 2017 graduate, was chosen to the District 27-6A first team as a senior for New Braunfels and also received honorable mention academic all-state honors from the Texas High School Coaches Association.

Miller was a big part of the Unicorns’ late-season drive to the postseason a year ago, pitching 12 2/3 innings in consecutive wins against East Central and allowing just one earned run.
