Javier Baez is a Puerto Rican professional baseball shortstop for the Detroit Tigers of Major League Baseball (MLB). He previously played in MLB for the Chicago Cubs and New York Mets.
Báez was born in Puerto Rico, although she completed her secondary education in Jacksonville, Florida. The Chicago Cubs selected Báez with the ninth overall pick in the Major League Baseball draft in 2011.
His first season in Major League Baseball was in 2014, and he spent the next eight years with the Cubs before being traded to the Mets in 2021.
Following the conclusion of the 2021 campaign, he was eligible for free agency and ultimately agreed to terms with the Tigers on a six-year contract.
