Ja’Wuan Amir James is one of the experienced offensive linemen for the National Football League’s Baltimore Ravens. His selection came in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft by the Miami Dolphins. He participated in Tennessee’s collegiate football program. He also participated in games with the Denver Broncos.
James and Austin Shepherd were teammates at North Gwinnett High School in Suwanee, Georgia. With a 13-2 record during his sophomore year, North Gwinnett made it to the GHSA Class 5A state championship game.
However, they were defeated by Valdosta Lowndes, who were led by Greg Reid and Telvin Smith, 34-6. James, a junior, assisted North Gwinnett in reaching the state quarterfinals with a 10-3 record.
There, they fell to Alec Ogletree’s Newnan 20-3. North Gwinnett had a 13-1 record during James’ senior year, winning the Region 7-5A title and moving on to the state quarterfinals where they fell to Camden County 35-0.
After the season, Georgia Sportswriters named James Class 5A All-State, and he received an invitation to participate in the 2010 Under Armour All-America Game in St. Petersburg, Florida.
