Jean started his baseball career in minor leagues with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim as an international free agent in 2007.



In 2007, he made his professional debut with the Dominican Summer Angels of the Dominican Summer League’s Rookie Division.

Segura was chosen as a DSL post-season All-Star after hitting.324/.392/.393 with 22 stolen bases and 7 sacrifice hits (7th in the league) in 219 at-bats.

In 2008, he shattered his left leg while playing for the Arizona Angels of the Rookie-level Arizona League. Segura was a standout performer for the Cedar Rapids Kernels of the Class A Midwest League.
