Jerick Deshun McKinnon, affectionately known as Jet, is an American football running back for the Kansas City Chiefs of the National Football League (NFL).
McKinnon received an invitation to the 2014 NFL Scouting Combine, where he raised his profile by running the 40-yard dash in times of 4.38 and 4.35 in the unofficial time and 4.41 in the official time, which was second fastest among running backs.
He also led all running backs in bench press reps with 32. He also demonstrated his physical prowess with a vertical leap of 40.5″ and a broad jump of 11’0″ (3.35 m) (1.03 m).
Only four other players at the NFL Combine could jump higher than 40.5 inches, and McKinnon also had some of the fastest times among running backs in the three-cone drill (6.83 seconds) and short-shuttle (4.12 seconds). The most bench press repetitions among active NFL running backs at the NFL Scouting Combine were 32 by McKinnon.
Jerick McKinnon participated in football and track at Sprayberry High School in Marietta, Georgia. He was a quarterback, running back, and wide receiver in football.
He was selected for the first team of all-state quarterbacks by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. He was also selected Region VII AAAA Player of the Year and named first-team all-state by the Georgia Sports Writers Association.
From 2010 until 2013, McKinnon studied at Georgia Southern University. Prior to being employed as a quarterback and slotback during the 2010 season, McKinnon was first recruited as a quarterback and handled special team duties. Through his junior season, he participated in GSU’s triple-option approach as the quarterback, but his senior season saw him used more frequently as a tailback.
