Venezuelan-born baseball player Jesus Aguilar, also known as Jess Alexander Aguilar, was born there. For the Miami Marlins baseball team, he plays first base. In the town of Maracay, Venezuela, he was created on June 30, 1990.

Baseball was a pastime for Jesus in his own country. He was signed by the Cleveland Indians in 2007 as an amateur free agent. The Indians made him spend his first two professional seasons with the Dominican Summer League Indians. He played for both the Lake County Captains of the Class A Midwest League and the Kinston Indians of the Class A-Advanced Carolina League in the minor leagues in 2011.

The Indians extended him a non-roster invitation to their 2013 spring training. He was assigned to play for the Akron Aeros of the Class AA Eastern League that year. After adding him to their 40-man roster in November 2013, the Indians promoted him to the main leagues in May 2014.
