He is the son of his parents by the names of Wendy Votto and Joseph Votto who gave birth to him and his three siblings by the names of  Tyler Votto, Ryan Votto and Paul Votto.

Votto began his high school education at the  Richview Collegiate Institute in 1997. He is known to have played basketball during his days at high school playing point guard and once scored 37 points in a game.
