John Edward King is an American professional baseball pitcher who currently plays for the Texas Rangers of Major League Baseball. King was born on September 14, 1994, in Laredo, Texas



King went to Sugar Land’s William P. Clements High School. In 2014 and 2015, he played collegiate baseball for Angelina College in Lufkin, Texas.

He subsequently played for the University of Houston Cougars for two years (2016 and 2017).  During his senior season, he tore UCL in his left elbow and continued to pitch despite the injury.

He was picked by the Texas Rangers in the 10th round of the 2017 MLB draft, with the 314th overall pick, and signed for a $10,000 signing bonus.

In July 2017, King had Tommy John surgery and missed the start of the 2018 season. He returned to the AZL Rangers of the Rookie-level Arizona League in September 2018 and participated in three games for the Spokane Indians.

To begin the 2019 season, he was sent to the Hickory Crawdads of the Class A South Atlantic League, where he went 12–2 with a 3.42 ERA in 26 innings.

On September 4, 2020, King was activated and made his MLB debut against the Seattle Mariners.  To date, for Texas in 2020, King is 1–0, with a 6.10 ERA and 9 Ks.

In 46 innings for Texas in 2021, King was 7–5 with a 3.52 ERA and 40 strikeouts. [14] King was placed in the IL in July and had TOS surgery in September 2021.
