Defensive tackle John Ridgeway plays in the National Football League for the Washington Commanders. He is 1.96 m tall and 146 kg. He played football as both an offensive and defensive tackle at Bloomington High School. As a senior, he earned first-team honors for both offense and defense in the Big Twelve Conference.

He redshirted as a true freshman before playing collegiate football for the Illinois State Redbirds at Illinois State University. When he was a redshirt freshman, he made the Missouri Valley Football Conference’s (MVFC) All-Newcomer team after making 30 tackles and one sack. In his redshirt junior season, he recorded 22 tackles, three tackles for loss, and was chosen to the first team of the MVFC.

He switched to the University of Arkansas, where he continued to play football for the Arkansas Razorbacks, after the 2020 season by using the transfer portal. For the 2021 season, he was selected to start as the Razorbacks’ nose guard, but an appendectomy prevented him from participating. With 39 tackles, two sacks, and four tackles for loss at the season’s end, he had a strong performance. He declared his intention to participate in the 2022 NFL Draft following the conclusion of the season.

The 178th pick overall, Ridgeway was taken by the Dallas Cowboys in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft. He was discharged from his employment on September 17, 2022. The Washington Commanders took possession of him off waivers on September 19, 2022.
