India was regarded as one of the top prospects in the 2018 Major League Baseball draft, and the Cincinnati Reds took him fifth overall.
India signed a $5.3 million contract with the Reds and began his professional career with the Rookie League Appalachian League’s Greeneville Reds, where he batted.261 with three home runs.
On July 26, he was assigned to the Pioneer League’s Billings Mustangs in order to gain playing time at shortstop.
In three games with Billings, he hit .250 with two hits. India was promoted to the Dayton Dragons of the Class A Midwest League on July 30 and spent the rest of the season there, batting .229 with three home runs and 11 RBIs in 27 games.

The Cincinnati Reds announced on March 31, 2021 that India would make his major league debut on Opening Day after being picked for the team after a solid showing in spring training.

India was added to the 40-man roster on April 1, 2021, and made his major league debut as the Opening Day starting second baseman.
