In August of 2016, Montgomery was promoted to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders of the Class AAA International League after starting the 2016 campaign with the Trenton Thunder of the Class AA Eastern League. In the Triple-A National Championship Game, he won after pitching.
