Jordan Poyer, real name Jordan Lynn-Baxter Poyer, plays strong safety for the National Football League’s Buffalo Bills. He participated in football with the team at Astoria High School. He assisted in the state championship victories of the baseball team as a freshman and the football team as a senior.
He played football for the Oregon State Beavers from 2009 to 2012 while attending Oregon State University after graduating from high school. He participated in 13 games as a true freshman in 2009 and made 11 tackles. He had 34 tackles and 1,109 all-purpose yards the next season while playing cornerback.
Poyer was chosen by the Philadelphia Eagles in the seventh round of the 2013 NFL Draft. Poyer signed a four-year, $2.22 million contract with the Eagles in May 2013, which included a $60,256 signing bonus. The Cleveland Browns picked him up off waivers in October 2013. He had a season-high six solo tackles in Week 14 of that year’s December against the New England Patriots, a 27-26 defeat.
The Buffalo Bills signed him to a four-year, $13 million contract in March 2017. He agreed to a two-year contract extension with the Bills in March 2020. Poyer received his first career selection to the 2021 All-Pro Team in January 2022.
