He grew up in Tullahoma, Tennessee in the United States where he was born to Travis Sheffield and Misty Sheffield. He was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 1st round of the draft.
He made his professional debut that season with the rookie-class Arizona League Dodgers and the Class-A Great Lakes Loons. He spent the 2017 season playing for the Great Lakes Loons. He was promoted during the season to play for the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes of the California League.
