Jordan Sheffield is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Colorado Rockies of Major League Baseball (MLB). He played college baseball at Vanderbilt University.
Tullahoma High School, located in Tullahoma, Tennessee, was Sheffield’s alma mater. Because it was determined that he required Tommy John surgery before graduating, he was unable to be selected in the first round of the Major League Baseball draft.
He was chosen by the Boston Red Sox in the 13th round of the 2013 Major League Baseball draft, but he opted to attend Vanderbilt University instead of signing with the team and playing for them.
After missing the whole 2014 campaign so that he could recover from surgery, Sheffield pitched for Vanderbilt in 2015, making six starts and sixteen relief appearances. He would finish his career with a win-loss record of 5–2, an earned run average (ERA) of 2.85, and 55 strikeouts in a total of 60 innings pitched.
Following the conclusion of the 2015 campaign, he participated in the summer collegiate baseball competition with the Brewster Whitecaps of the Cape Cod Baseball League.
During the 2016 season, Sheffield started 16 games and finished with an 8–6 record, a 3.01 earned run average, and 113 strikeouts in 101 2/3 innings thrown.
