José Enrique Azócar is a  professional baseball outfielder from Venezuela who plays for Major League Baseball’s San Diego Padres (MLB). In 2022, he made his MLB debut.

Azocar signed as an international free agent with the Detroit Tigers in October 2012, and he made his professional debut with the VSL Tigers in 2013. (the Venezuelan Summer League).

In 2015, he was assigned to the short-season single-A Connecticut Tigers before being promptly promoted to the GCL Tigers’ squad, where he was awarded a 2015 Post Season All-Star. He batted .325 with 29 RBIs, 10 doubles, and five triples.

His performance earned him a call-up to the West Michigan Whitecaps for the 2016 season, where he played the entire season.

In 2017, he was promoted to high-A Lakeland, although his average dropped from.281 in 2016 to.220 in 2017, despite hitting his first professional home runs (three).

Azocar planned to spend the year in West Michigan and Lakeland. He’d begin the year with the Erie SeaWolves. With a .336 batting average as of May 11, 2019, he was the Eastern League’s third best hitter.

His average would eventually drop, but it was still .293 when he was nominated to the Eastern League All-Star Game for the Western Division on June 24.

At the time of his accolade, he had 136 hits, was tied for third in the league in batting average (.284), had 39 multi-hit games, ten home runs, and 56 RBIs.
