A member of the 2015 U-18 Baseball World Cup-winning Cuban national baseball team, Barrero also competed in the Industriales’ season-opening National Series appearance. He joined the Cincinnati Reds as an international free agent in June 2017 after being released by his last team.

Barrero made his professional debut with the Dayton Dragons in the 2018 season. He spent the 2019 season with the Daytona Tortugas and then spent the next season in the Arizona Fall League. The Reds sent him an invitation to their Spring Training camp in 2020.



Barrero made his Major League Baseball debut against the Milwaukee Brewers on August 27, 2020. The 2020 season saw him hit.194 with no home runs and only two RBIs in 24 games with Cincinnati, and he began the 2021 season with the Chattanooga Lookouts of the Southern League.
