He participated in training camp and competed for a place as a backup inside linebacker against Keishawn Bierria, Zaire Anderson, Joseph Jones, and Jerrol Garcia-Williams.
Jewell played linebacker and running back in high school football while attending Decorah High School in Decorah, Iowa. With a 49-21 victory over Sioux City Bishop Heelan in the 2012 contest, Jewell assisted his squad in making appearances in back-to-back 3A State Title Games.
Jewell participated in 11 games and earned four starts in 2014 after redshirting his freshman year at Iowa in 2013.
He had 51 tackles and one sack by the season’s end. He made all 14 starts as a sophomore in 2015, leading the team with 126 tackles, three sacks, and four interceptions. In 2016, as a junior, Jewell started all 13 games and again led the team in tackles with 124 while also recording 1.5 sacks.
Jewell had a pectoral injury and was put on injured reserve on September 21, 2021. Jewell and the Broncos agreed to a two-year contract extension on March 15, 2022.
