After playing collegiate baseball at Auburn University, he was picked by the Chicago Cubs in the 2007 MLB draft. Donaldson made his Major League Baseball debut with the Athletics in 2010 as a catcher, eventually moving to third base and earning an All-Star in the 2014 season.
