Josh Johnson’s Parents: Meet Gordie Johnson and Rosemary Whisenton

At the University of San Diego, Josh Johnson started his collegiate football career in 2004 as Todd Mortensen’s backup. He had 135 yards at the end of the campaign.

When he attended Oakland Technical High School, he earned three letters in football, basketball, and track & field. He was chosen for the City’s first football squad as a senior and was recognized as the group’s Most Improved Player.

He also contributed to the Oakland Athletic League championship for his team. He was also a teammate of Marshawn Lynch’s cousin.



He presently plays as quarterback for the Denver Broncos of the National Football League (NFL).

Johnson was selected by numerous teams despite attending a small school. His outstanding NFL Combine accomplishments, where he recorded the greatest 40-yard sprint time (4.53) and vertical jump of any quarterback in the 2008 NFL Combine, were helpful to him.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected him with the 160th overall pick (pick 25) in the fifth round of the 2008 NFL Draft. A classic journeyman quarterback, he played for 15 different NFL teams during his career.
