He received a three-star recruit rating right out of high school. A few days before National Signing Day, he announced his decision to attend the University of Houston. He had previously committed to play college football at Oklahoma State going into his senior year, but he had since changed his mind.
He participated in football for the Houston Cougars at Houston. During his actual rookie year, he redshirted. As a redshirt freshman, he started all 13 of the Cougars’ games. The following year, he started ten games, missing two due to a knee injury. As a junior redshirt, he once more started each of Houston’s 13 games.
He started nine games at left tackle as a redshirt senior, earning second-team All-American Athletic Conference honors. Jones received an invitation to participate in the 2020 Senior Bowl after the season ended. The Arizona Cardinals selected him with the 72nd overall pick in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
