Joshua-Douglas James Naylor is a Major League Baseball (MLB) first baseman and outfielder for the Cleveland Guardians.

He was previously with the San Diego Padres. Naylor was drafted 12th overall in the 2015 MLB draft and made his MLB debut in 2019 with the Padres.

During the 2020 season, he was acquired by Cleveland.

 

He was a member of the Ontario Blue Jays of the Ontario Premier Baseball League throughout his amateur career (PBLO).

This elite travel baseball team, made up of the best young players in Ontario, competed in tournaments all throughout North America on a regular basis.

 

In Mississauga, Ontario, Naylor went to St. Joan of Arc Catholic Secondary School.

At the age of 15, he was selected for the Canadian junior national baseball team, which won silver at the 2012 Under-18 Baseball World Cup in South Korea.

He competed in the 2014 Under-18 Baseball World Cup and won the bronze medal.

Naylor was one of ten high school invitees to the MLB Junior Select Home Run Derby at Target Field during MLB All-Star Week in 2014, making him the first Canadian to compete in the event.

He was the runner-up. He played in the Perfect Game All-American Classic at Petco Park and the Under Armour All-America Baseball Game at Wrigley Field later in 2014.

Naylor had made the decision to attend Texas Tech University and play baseball for the Red Raiders. 

Naylor was named to Baseball America’s High School All-American first team in 2015, and Perfect Game put him among the top 50 available prospects in the 2015 Major League Baseball Draft.
