At the end of the 2013 season, Lagares played 121 games, batting an average of .242 with 95 hits, 34 RBIs, four home runs, and 20 walks in 421 plate appearances while striking out 96 times.

On the Opening Day of the 2014 season, Lagares was on the Mets’ roster. On April 14, he was forced to leave a game against the Arizona Diamondbacks after injuring his hamstring.

After breaking up a double play in the seventh inning, Lagares pulled his hamstring and left the game. Next to his injury the following day, the team placed him on the 15-day disabled list because of a torn right hamstring in his leg.

With five extra-base hits and seven RBIs in 13 games, he had a batting average of .314 and an OBP of .345.
