In 2012, he changed his name from “John” to “JuJu” in football program listings, a nickname an aunt gave him when he was little. Rapper Snoop Dogg coached Smith-Schuster when he was a young player in the Snoop Youth Football League.

Snoop gave Smith-Schuster the nickname “Sportscenter” and assured the youngster that he thought one day his highlights would air on the premier ESPN program. He played college football at USC. He presently plays as a wide receiver for the Kansas City Chiefs of the National Football League (NFL).

On March 20, 2022, Smith-Schuster committed to the Kansas City Chiefs. The contract had a maximum value of $10.75 million and lasted for one year. In a 20-24 loss to the Buffalo Bills on October 16, 2022, he scored his first touchdown while playing for the Chiefs.

Football was Smith-first Schuster’s sport when he was eight years old. He legally changed his last name from “Smith” to “Smith-Schuster” while attending college as a tribute to his stepfather.
