Justin played varsity football when a student at Glenville High School in Cleveland, Ohio. He attended the University of Illinois after graduating from high school and played NCAA football for the Illinois Fighting Illini squad. Justin Hardee, a three-star prospect, had 841 receiving yards in total when he graduated from high school.

He was a free agent that was signed by the Houston Texans in May 2017 after being undrafted out of college. The 2nd of September 2017 saw his release. He joined the New Orleans Saints’ practice squad that same month. As of September 23, 2017, he was a part of the Saints’ active roster.



He re-signed with the Saints in March 2020, but on November 6, 2020, they were forced to place him on injured reserve due to a groin injury. He began to work on December 12, 2020. On March 18, 2021, he agreed to a $5.25 million, three-year deal with the New York Jets.
