American pitcher Justin Robert Topa, who plays for the Milwaukee Brewers of Major League Baseball, was born on March 7, 1991. In 2020, he made his MLB debut.
The Pittsburgh Pirates selected Topa in the 17th round, 509th overall, at the 2013 Major League Baseball Draft. He joined the group on June 13, 2013, and on June 18, 2013, when pitching in relief for the Mahoning Valley Scrappers of the NY-Penn League, he made his professional debut.
He went one inning, gave up one hit, and struck out one. Topa had a 5-2 win-loss record and a 2.19 earned run average at the end of the season (ERA).
Topa played for the West Virginia Power in 2014 before being promoted to the Bradenton Marauders in 2015, where he would remain through the 2016 season. On April 1st, 2017, the Pirates organization released Topa.
Topa committed to a minor league deal with the Milwaukee Brewers on March 28, 2019. He played for the Carolina Mudcats in addition to the Biloxi Shuckers, where he spent the majority of the season. The Brewers added Topa to their 60-player roster on July 28, 2020.
On August 31, 2020, Topa received his first promotion to the main leagues, and that night, he faced the Detroit Tigers in his major league debut. Topa pitched two innings in relief of starter Josh Lindblom, giving two runs on two hits and striking out two.
Topa was diagnosed with a flexor tendon strain on March 29, 2021, and would miss the first half of the 2021 season. Topa was added to the 60-day injury list on April 6. Topa was reinstated from the injured list on September 4.

Topa had been out with an injury since the beginning of the regular season, but by mid-May, he was able to pitch against live batters. After being placed on the 60-day IL, the right-hander will be out for at least another week and will probably need to go on a rehab assignment before returning to the major-league club.
