Tucker was a three-position player for the Westlake Chaparrals, serving as a wide receiver, safety, and placekicker. In addition, Tucker played soccer from the age of 3 to 4 up until he was a senior in high school. He was a participant in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in 2008.

Tucker was a member of the Texas Longhorns football team while he was attending the University of Texas in Austin.

He kicked the game-winning field goal with no time left on the clock in 2011, bringing an end to a rivalry that had seen Texas A&M University and the University of Texas compete against each other 118 times over a period of 117 years. Texas, which was ranked No. 25 at the time, triumphed 27–25.
