He was honored as the Palm Beach County 5A-1A Football Defensive Player of the Year after compiling 71 tackles, three sacks, and nine interceptions during his senior season.
ESPN ranked Elam as the fourth greatest high school football prospect in his class and committed to play college football at the University of Florida.
Elam participated in all 13 of the Gators’ games as a true freshman and started five of those games.
He finished the season with 11 tackles, three interceptions, and four extra passes broken up. As a result of his performance, Elam was named to the Southeastern Conference (SEC) All-Freshman Team.
Elam was named to the preseason second-team All-SEC and was on the watchlist for the Jim Thorpe Award prior to the start of his sophomore season.
Elam made his entry for the 2022 NFL Draft official on January 10th, 2022. Elam was selected by the Buffalo Bills in the second round of the draft, with the 23rd overall pick, after the Bills made a trade with the Baltimore Ravens to move up from the 25th overall spot.
With the selection of Elam, the Bills have now made the first-round selection of a defensive player for the fourth consecutive year, following Gregory Rousseau’s selection in 2021.
