In the National Football League, Keith Smith plays fullback for the Atlanta Falcons. His full name is Alton Keith Smith Jr. He is 1.83 m tall and 109 kg in weight. He played high school football at Charter Oak High School, where he also attended. He started at linebacker as a junior, racking up 110 tackles, 5 sacks, and 3 fumble recoveries while being named All-CIF Southeast Southern Section.

His 132 tackles as a senior earned him the 2009 Miramonte League Defensive Player of the Year award as well as All-CIF Southeast Southern Section recognition. He earned a football scholarship from San Jose State University and competed as an inside linebacker for the San Jose State Spartans from 2010 to 2013.

His 476 total tackles, which are second all-time among San Jose State players, were earned across 49 games in which he played, started 45, and made a total of 49 appearances. In December 2013, San Jose State awarded him a B.A. in communication studies. Dallas Cowboys signed Smith as an undrafted free agent after the 2014 NFL Draft, which took place in May.

In March 2018, he agreed to a two-year deal with the Oakland Raiders. In September 2019, he signed with the Atlanta Falcons. He led the club in both special teams tackles (8 total) and forced fumbles (2). His participation in all 16 games included 5 starts. In March 2020, Smith agreed to an additional year of his Falcons deal.
