He attended Eastern Washington University and played collegiate football for the Eastern Washington Eagles team after graduating from high school.

From 2013 until 2016, he represented the Eagles in collegiate football. He was regarded as EWU’s top receiver. As an undrafted free agent, Bourne was signed by the San Francisco 49ers to a three-year, $1.67 million contract in April 2017.
