Kevin Newman is an American professional baseball shortstop for the Pittsburgh Pirates of Major League Baseball (MLB). He played college baseball for the Arizona Wildcats of the University of Arizona.



In the summers of 2013 and 2014, Newman played collegiate baseball with the Falmouth Commodores of the Cape Cod Baseball League (CCBL), where he won the league’s batting average title and the league MVP award years.

During the 2015 MLB draft, the Pittsburgh Pirates drafted Newman with the 19th overall pick.

After signing with the Pirates, he reported to the Class A-Short Season New York–Penn League’s West Virginia Black Bears, where he made his professional baseball debut.

In August, the Pittsburgh Pirates promoted Newman to the Class A South Atlantic League’s West Virginia Power.

He had a.257 batting average with two home runs, 17 RBIs, and 13 stolen bases in 61 combined games between the two teams.

A Class A-Advanced Florida State League rookie, he was later moved to the Class AA Eastern League’s Altoona Curve, where he batted.320 with five home runs and 52 RBIs over the course of 102 games in 2016.
