As a defensive end with the Chicago Bears of the National Football League, Chukwuemeka Kingsley Jonathan (born April 28, 1998) is of Nigerian descent.
He attended Syracuse University where he played football in college before being signed by the Buffalo Bills as an undrafted free agent in 2022. In the CFL Global Draft for 2022, he was likewise selected first overall.
Jonathan chose to reapply to the Syracuse program as a fifth-year senior after receiving one additional year of eligibility in 2021. He made 20 tackles and 4.5 sacks while playing in all 12 games, starting one.
He was a Campbell Trophy, Witten Award, and Wuerffel Trophy semifinalist as well as on the watch list for those awards. The Joseph Alexander Award was given to him for his “excellence in football, scholarship, and citizenship.
With a total of 56 games played, Jonathan concluded his college career with 101 tackles, 21.5 for loss, 15 quarterback sacks, two fumble recoveries, and three forced fumbles.
The Buffalo Bills signed Jonathan as an undrafted free agent after he was not taken in the 2022 NFL Draft. Also selected by the Montreal Alouettes as the first choice in the 2022 CFL Global Draft, he opted to remain with Buffalo.
After being cut from the roster during the final cuts, he was picked up by the Chicago Bears on waivers the following day and added to the team’s active squad.
