Chukwuemeka Kingsley Jonathan, an American football defensive end for the Chicago Bears of the National Football League, was born in Nigeria on April 28, 1998.

In 2022, the Buffalo Bills signed him as an undrafted free agent after he played college football at Syracuse. Additionally, he was selected first overall in the 2022 CFL Global Draft.

Jonathan chose to enroll in the Syracuse program again as a fifth-year senior in 2021 after receiving an additional year of eligibility. He made 20 tackles and 4.5 sacks while participating in all 12 games and starting one of them.

He was a Campbell Trophy semifinalist, Witten Award finalist, and Wuerffel Trophy watchlist player. For his “excellence in football, scholarship, and citizenship,” he was given the Joseph Alexander Award.

Jonathan played in 56 games throughout his time in college, recording 101 tackles, 21.5 for loss, 15 quarterback sacks, two fumble recoveries, and three forced fumbles.

Jonathan was signed by the Buffalo Bills as an undrafted free agent after going undrafted in the 2022 NFL Draft. He was also the Montreal Alouettes’ first-round pick in the 2022 CFL Global Draft, but he opted to stay with Buffalo. On September 1, the Chicago Bears claimed him off waivers and added him to their active roster after he had been released during the final roster cuts.
