Kirby Snead made his MLB debut on July 28th, 2021, as one of a huge number of young pitchers who were given a chance by the Toronto Blue Jays.

With a potent offense and a quality starting pitcher corps, but the Jays’ bullpen, excluding Jason Romano, continued blowing leads, which eventually kept them out of the playoffs.

eSnead had a 2.35 ERA in 7 2/3 innings of work for the Jays, but he was unable to handle some of the higher-pressure duties in the pen, thus he was sent back to the minor leagues.

He was 2-0, 1.58 with four saves and 57 strikeouts in 40 innings for the Buffalo Bisons of the Triple-A East in 36 games.

As an amateur free agent in 2016, the Blue Jays selected University of Florida outfielder Kirby Kirby. The reliever role had been his specialty while in college, and he has continued to excel in it since entering the pros.

With the Dunedin Blue Jays in 2017, he posted an ERA of 1.36 in 26 games after being promoted midway through the season, then posted an ERA of 1.08 in his first games with the same team in 2018 before being promoted to the American Association.

His chances of making his MLB debut appeared to be on the verge of being realized at the end of the 2019 season, but because of the Coronavirus epidemic, he was forced to miss the whole 2020 season.

 

The Oakland Athletics acquired Matt Chapman in a trade with the New York Yankees on March 16, 2022, along with Kevin Smith, Gunnar Hoglund, and Zach Logue.
