Kody Rusty earned his high school diploma from Burleson in the year 2016. He earned letterman status in the sports of football, track, and powerlifting. During his senior year, the team finished with an 8-4 record, advancing to the second round of the postseason thanks to Russey’s leadership on both the offensive and defensive lines.

As a senior, Russey won the Texas High School Powerlifting Association state championships and set a new record for the state of Texas in the deadlift by lifting 740 pounds. He also broke the state record for the bench press. During his junior year, he competed in the Texas High School Powerlifting Association state finals and earned a fourth-place finish overall.

As a freshman, he participated in all 13 games that the Bulldogs played, including 10 starts on the offensive line. He was a key member of the offensive line for the Bulldogs.

Before making the switch to center for good in Week 6’s game against UAB, Russey earned a starting role in Week 4 as the left guard for the game that was played away at South Carolina.

During his junior year, he participated in all 13 games, and he started at center for every single one of those games.

Russey assisted in directing an offensive front that gave birth to J’Mar Smith, the C-USA Offensive Player of the Year, and Justin Henderson, a 1,000-yard runner.
