Leighton Vander Esch Parents: Meet Darwin Vander Esch and Sandy Vander Esch

The Dallas Cowboys of the National Football League are well-known for having linebacker Leighton Vander Esch on their roster. At 1.93 m tall and 116 kg, he is also quite tall. He played basketball, track, and eight-man football when a student at Riggins’ Salmon River High School. Eleven students made up his graduating class in 2014.

He suited up as both a middle linebacker and quarterback in football. For 2,155 yards and 28 passing touchdowns with one interception as a senior, he completed 121 of 199 passes (60.8 percent), for a completion rate of. He was a football player for the Boise State Broncos while he was a student at Boise State University. He had a breakout season in 2017 as a junior and started at weak-side linebacker.

His collegiate career came to an end with 188 tackles, five sacks, and three interceptions. Vander Esch declared his intention to sacrifice his remaining eligibility and participate in the 2018 NFL Draft on December 21, 2017. He participated in the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis at the end of February and finished all of the positional drills.

Scouts were delighted with his overall performance at the combine after he tied for second place in the vertical leap and the short shuttle among all linebackers. Vander Esch was taken by the Dallas Cowboys in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft, as the third linebacker overall. In May 2018, the Cowboys inked Vander Esch to a four-year, fully guaranteed contract worth $11.84 million, including a $6.69 million signing bonus.
