Mainland High School was the site of both his high school education and football career. With 103 tackles and 10.5 sacks in his senior season, Mainland was able to go to the FHSAA 6A state playoffs.

When training camp opened in August 2020, he was added to the active/non-football injury list. That month, he had a job assigned to him. He committed to the Giants in March 2021 to a three-year, $63 million deal that included a $45 million guarantee and a signing bonus of $22.50 million.
