For the New York Giants of the National Football League, Leonard Williams plays defensive tackle professionally. He stands 1.96 meters tall and weighs 137 kilograms. He attended Mainland High School for both his high school education and football career. He produced 103 tackles and 10.5 sacks as a senior, which helped Mainland get to the FHSAA 6A state semifinals. Rivals.com rated him as a four-star prospect right out of high school.
After graduating from high school, he enrolled at the University of Southern California, where he played NCAA football for the USC Trojans. He started nine out of the 13 games he played in as a true freshman in 2012, compiling 64 tackles, eight sacks, and an interception en route to being named the Pac-12 Defensive Freshman of the Year.
He decided to skip his senior year and enter the 2015 NFL Draft after his junior campaign. Williams was selected by the New York Jets with the sixth overall pick in the first round of the 2015 Draft. In October 2019, he was traded to the New York Giants. He was listed as active/non-football injured at the start of training camp in August 2020.
He was activated that very month. The Giants signed him to a three-year, $63 million contract in March 2021, which included a $22.50 million signing bonus and $45 million in guaranteed compensation. In September 2022, the Giants altered Williams’ contract in order to create more cap space.
