Before the 2011 MLB season began, Cain was assigned to Kansas City’s AAA team, the Omaha Storm Chasers, where he appeared in six games.

The Royals made the announcement that they had inked Cain to a one-year deal on February 18, 2012. The deal’s financial details weren’t made public.

With Jarrod Dyson serving as his backup, Cain started 2013 as the center fielder. Dyson began receiving additional beginnings around the end of June.

After being placed on the injured list on August 10 due to a strained left oblique, Cain made 14 more starts during the season, including 7 in right and 7 in center field.

He finished eighth in the AL in terms of both batting average and stolen bases.

Due to his efforts with Kansas City Kansas Community College’s track coach Al Hobson to increase his base-running sprint speed, he recorded twice as many infield hits as the previous season.
