After being selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 17th round of the 2004 MLB draft out of college, Lorenzo started playing baseball professionally in 2005. He participated in the 2005 minor league season with both the AZL Brewers and the Rookie League Helena Brewers. He was promoted by the Brewers to the Class A West Virginia Power in 2006, where he was selected for the midseason and postseason South Atlantic League All-Star teams.
He received another promotion to the Brewers’ Class A-Advanced Brevard County Manatees during the 2007 campaign. He was called up to the Triple-A Nashville Sounds in 2008 and spent the year there in Brevard County. He was promoted to the major leagues by the Brewers in 2010, and on July 16, 2010, the team faced the Atlanta Braves, he made his MLB debut.
In December 2010, the Brewers dealt his contract to the Kansas City Royals. He returned to the Brewers in January 2018 and inked a $80 million, five-year contract. He was selected for the MLB All-Star Game in 2018. He obtained waivers in June 2022.
