Niang’s parents are French. They migrated from France to the United States in the 1990s and settled in New York, where Niang was born. His family moved a lot, so he lived a little bit of his life in Geneva, Switzerland, but the family later moved back to the United and they settled in the Connecticut town of New Canaan.

Niang’s interest in football started at a young age. He has been playing sports since the 3rd grade. As a multi-talented athlete, he also played basketball and tennis growing up.



Niang attended New Canaan High School and played competitive high school football. He played as a utility player ( offensive and defensive line) on the high school team.

Niang was an instrumental part of the Rams’ run to state titles in 3 straight seasons, from 2013 to 2015. During his time at New Canaan, Niang was named to the All-FCIAC First Team as a Junior and again as a Senior.

During his senior year, he was also named to the All-State First Team by the Coaches Association as well as the New Haven Register.

Coming out of high school, Niang was a sought-after prospect, and he had a lot of scholarship offers from institutions such as TCU, Penn State, Auburn, Miami, and Georgia, but he chose TCU instead.

After a successful high school career, Niang attended Texas Christian University (TCU) and played three seasons of college football for the TCU Horned Frogs.

Niang participated in 12 of TCU’s 13 games in his first fall as a student-athlete, after enrolling there in 2016. Midway through his sophomore year in 2017, he was named a starting quarterback, and he helped lead the Frogs to the school’s first Big 12 Championship Game and an Alamo Bowl victory over Stanford.
