Luis Cessa, a Mexican professional baseball pitcher for the Cincinnati Reds, was born in Córdoba, Veracruz, but spent his childhood in Cárdenas, Tabasco.



The Tigers traded Cessa and Chad Green to the New York Yankees for Justin Wilson on December 9, 2015. In 2016, Cessa was named to the Yankees’ Opening Day roster. On April 8, he made his major league debut for the Yankees.

He allowed two hits, one home run, and two strikeouts in two innings of work as the Yankees were defeated by the Detroit Tigers, 0–4. Cessa was sent to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders of the Triple-A International League by the Yankees on April 15, 2016, in exchange for Tyler Olson. Cessa was recalled by the Yankees on May 17 for AAA Scranton/WB.




The Yankees optioned him to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on June 7. Cessa was recalled from Scranton by the Yankees on June 26. Cessa and Justin Wilson were traded with the Cincinnati Reds on July 28, 2021, in exchange for Jason Parker. Cessa finished 2-1 with a 2.05 ERA and 23 strikeouts in 24 outings with the Reds.
