He played collegiate summer baseball in 2011 with the Cotuit Kettleers of the Cape Cod Baseball League. Before he graduated from the University, he was awarded the Southeastern Conference (SEC), Player of the Week Award, twice and he was also a semifinalist for the Golden Spikes Award.

He spent the following season playing for the Class-A Bowling Green Hot Rods. At the end of the season, he was selected to play in the Arizona Fall League for the Salt River Rafters. He made his MLB debut for the Rays on September 1, 2015. He was claimed off waivers by the Toronto Blue Jays in April 2017.

In December 2019, he signed a deal with the Pittsburgh Pirates. A year later, he signed with the Milwaukee Brewers. He signed a one-year contract with the Cleveland Guardians in March 2022.
