He redshirted his true freshman season of 2016 and participated in 11 games in 2017, earning a spot on the second team of the Academic All-Pac-12. Over the team’s postseason banquet and after Washington’s victory at Arizona, he was given the John P. Angel Lineman of the Year Award. The Denver Broncos chose Wattenberg with the 171st overall choice in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
